Darkly Through a Mirror

What lies beyond, and will a GPS work here?

lyrics

Darkly Through a Mirror

So darkly through the mirror
There comes eternal light
Another lost and broken man
Devoid of soul and sight
Now bring me back to life

Mirror, mirror on my wall
Take my hand and cover me
In liquid crystalline

From this side it seems like a dream
My arm sinking into the screen
If Einstein would lend me a hand
I’d learn to understand
And put aside fear
And dive into the clear flowing glass
The stars come fast and fill my mouth
I cannot breath
Inside is out

There is something in my eye
Seeing all the sights I’ve seen
And there is something in my brain
Taking all the memories I’ve ever retained

Now I’m lost inside this mirror
No GPS
Where the hell is my mobile phone?

But anyway, it doesn’t matter that much to me anymore
Because I’m just a shower of sparks
In a glass reflecting light

Hello eternity
If that’s where I am
Something still watches me
From a distance
Letting my defences down
Never been a follower of New Age philosophy
But that may have to change
As a flaming Hand cries out “Welcome stranger!”
Across the endless void I go
Past the empty bitter souls below
Saints and sinners catch my eye
Poets, dancers, looking for answers
And trying to fly

My handy Avatar makes a fiery sign and waves me on
And I’m beginning to wonder
If this is the stairway to you know where
There must be more than this
Nothing seems to be quite right
No ray of light
No pit of fire
No creeping nuns to drag me down
If I am dying I’ve lost some weight
Must have left my bones at the Mirror’s gate

And now the scene is changing hue
I’m in an ocean eternal blue
The Hand of fire points to a tree
Every branch to waves connected endlessly
And a voice cried out
Sweet with liquid honeyed tongue
But no one heard a word she said
So they turned away
And went back to their wine and bread

Then I saw the ocean dry and disappear
It’s time for you to leave
She whispered in my ear
And then the soulless ones
Gathered in a ring
They set upon the Maiden fair
And tore her limb from limb

I turned to Hand
Not knowing what to say
Light spread out from fingertips
And night turned into day
I had a feeling I’d seen this once before
As I looked into the Mirror on the wall
